SMALL HOUSES & CHURCH

by Roberto Romero

Handmade welded steel piece with electrostatic painting
Houses: 20 x 18 x 15 cm
Church: 24 x 14 x 15 cm

The vernacular architecture of Northeastern Brazil inspires the small houses and church sculptures. With strong influence from European colonial styles, these buildings feature varied decorative elements. Their details reflect an interplay of neoclassical, art nouveau, gothic, and mannerist styles, which became widespread from the 1920s to the early 1930s.

Rendered in a minimalist visual language, the wire lines draw the façade’s outlines, whose simplicity is their most iconic characteristic.

These sculptures are ideal for placing on shelves alongside books or as centerpieces on coffee tables.

Each piece is handcrafted in galvanized welded steel. Their creation involves artisans from Rio de Janeiro’s samba school communities, combining craftsmanship and cultural heritage. Every sculpture is unique. The use of recycled steel—sourced from old Carnival costumes and floats—makes each artwork environmentally responsible.

The Northeast Brazil series collection debuted at the 2025 São Paulo Design Week (DW-SP), at Galeria Metrópole, as a trend in Brazilian design.
