VITÓRIA-RÉGIA LEAF
by Roberto Romero
Handmade welded steel piece with electrostatic painting
Small: 50 x 50 x 5 cm - Big: 75 x x 75 x 8 cm
The sculptures are inspired by the Vitória-Régia leaves that are found floating in the rivers of the Amazon. With a minimalist expression, the lines represent the ribs or veins that the plant uses to carry out photosynthesis, which provides the energy necessary for its survival.
Each creation is unique. They are handcrafted from welded galvanized steel, and the production has the participation of carnival artisans from “samba schools” located in the urban communities of Rio de Janeiro.
The pieces are highly sustainable, given that a large part of the steel used for production comes from recycling old carnival costumes and floats that are normally discarded.
This piece was be launched at the Milan Design Week 2024, at the Apex Brazil stand, as a Brazilian design trend.
