BOTANICAL SERIES INSPIRATION
In 2017, I started researching flowers, leaves and plants inspired by the exuberance of Brazilian botanic. That's how I decided to dive into the Itatiaia National Park, in the interior of Rio de Janeiro, where I did a total immersion artistic residency inside the Atlantic forest.
After recording the flora in a series of photographs, I selected six leaves that would form the first pieces of the series: Monstera, Elephant's Ear, Syngonium, Maranta and Banana Tree. Then, I sketched its contours on white cardboard, taking inspiration from old botanical engravings from the end of the 19th century, and started prototyping the pieces. As a result, minimalist forms were born, but with a strong appeal to the organicity of the original forms: The leaves were born free of excess. In a few words, I can speak of my works as a work of synthesis, which takes forms to their minimum expression.
